Heidi, aged 19, converted a keen interest in trucks into the first step of a career as a driver when she discovered Skills for Logistics Young LGV Driver Scheme (YDS). “We are all aware of the current driver shortages and acute lack of women drivers in the industry and we are keen to ensure that the industry addresses the imbalance," he concluded. "It is fantastic to receive this kind of recognition for doing something that I love to do," said Heidi. "Ever since I was a child I wanted to get involved in driving LGVs. I really enjoy being on the road for long stretches and meeting up with other drivers at the truck stops and to get a qualification too is really fantastic." Skills for Logistics is the Sector Skills Council for the freight logistics industries. Its programmes include the Young LGV Driver Scheme and the Scottish Driver Training Scheme as well as Apprenticeships for a wide range of occupations across the sector.
