The Trust, which employs 2,400 staff, notched up the grade ‘2’s in the following five areas of learning: Business Administration; Health Care, Leadership and Management; Equality of Opportunity; Quality Assurance and for overall effectiveness. The Trust places or employs apprentices across a range of areas of learning in a variety of hospital departments in both the Barnsley Hospital and Barnsley Primary Care Trust. Anthea Ingman, Vocational Training Manager at the Trust said the NHS provides the ideal environment for apprentices to develop as workers and adults. She highlighted some key statistics: "Over 1400 young people have been through the programme and, during this last year, 97 per cent of those who completed the programme entered employment (95 per cent of them within the NHS), 79 per cent achieved their NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) – 74 per cent of them completing the Apprenticeship Framework." David Sherlock, Chief Inspector at the Adult Learning Inspectorate said: “We make an independent assessment and are really pleased to report that learners at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are benefiting from the organisation’s high quality approach. When people improve their skills and achieve their qualifications they benefit their organisation, their communities and themselves."
