GoSkills appoints standards and qualifications executive

GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council for passenger transport has appointed a dedicated standards and qualifications executive, Richard Mendez, to oversee reforms to training and qualifications opportunities for 14-19 year olds.

Mendez joined the GoSkills workforce development team on 1 September 2005. His portfolio of work will include working with other SSCs and relevant agencies to progress the new specialised diplomas for young people in engineering and in travel and tourism.

GoSkills' Director of Workforce Development, Vicki Ball, said: "I'm delighted that Richard is joining GoSkills. His experience of partnership working will be invaluable in developing the new 14-19 diplomas.

"Forging effective partnerships between employers, schools and colleges will be critical in developing the right training and qualifications for young people and preparing them for work in the passenger transport sector. I'm looking forward to working with Richard, employers in our sector and other partners in progressing these exciting reforms."

Peter Huntington, GoSkills' Chief Executive, added: "Richard is a welcome addition to GoSkills. The Workforce Development team is already strong and we are confident that we can make a real difference in driving forward these reforms in a way that will benefit employers in the passenger transport industries."
