Warwick Hospitality invests in people

Warwick Hospitality, part of Warwick Conferences, has become one of the first organisations in the West Midlands to be successfully reviewed against the revised Investors in People Standard using the ‘Profile’ assessment approach.

The Investors in People Profile is a framework of good practice designed to provide further stretch for organisations. It does this by going beyond the current scope of the Investors in People Standard into broader areas of people management and development.

"If you want to attain higher standards and be the best in any line of business then you have to be prepared to push yourselves further," said Kevin Hamer, People Development Manager for the commercial businesses within the University of Warwick.

"We are proud of the reputation we have gained and the levels of excellence we have achieved, all of which were reflected in the excellent results which our assessment in this instance produced.

"But also important is to identify where improvements can be made, particularly with a fluid process such as hospitality where situations are always changing and expectation levels are forever rising."

He added: "The assessment marked us at four different levels from level one which meets the Standard and demonstrates good practice all the way up to level four which shows excellent practice."

The Investors in People Profile is based on the same three principles of the original Standard which are Plan, Do and Review. As with the Standard, those principles are underpinned by 10 indicators of good practice: Business Strategy, Learning and Development Strategy, People Management Strategy, Leadership and Management Strategy, Management Effectiveness, Recognition and Reward, Involvement and Empowerment, Learning and Development, Performance Measurement and Continuous Improvement.

"The Profile produced an extensive overview on all those important aspects, but generally speaking the conclusion was that we have a very happy work place here where the staff are well supported and managed, that there are clear values in place and an open communication structure," said Hamer.

"It also focussed on the effectiveness of our approach to providing training and development opportunities and the fact that we have a good performance review process in place."

Warwick Hospitality was first recognised as an Investor in People in 1998.
