Free training backs up Acas ‘Model Workplace’ guide

Acas has launched a new guide which it hopes will aid business competitiveness and customer service.

According to Acas, the Model Workplace booklet identifies the features of an effective workplace and provides guidance to help businesses achieve the key points. The guide will be backed up by free training sessions.

Rita Donaghy, Acas Chair said: "People are an organisation's most valuable resource and are essential to success. If organisations get the people issues right it can contribute to competitiveness, productivity, profitability and a better quality of working life. This new initiative from Acas is designed to help companies achieve that.

"The booklet contains a self-assessment questionnaire for companies to carry out a 'health check' against the key features of an effective workplace and signposts them to further help, including the special free training sessions we will be running to explain the features of the model in more detail. We can also provide other advice and training to help companies achieve progress.

"Conforming to the model workplace features will be entirely voluntary, we will not be checking up on companies who have enlisted our help to achieve the model but we hope that organisations of all sizes will come to see this guide as an essential element in their business plans."
