LSC pilots ‘Pick and Mix’ training programme

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) have implemented ‘bite-sized training’ courses for staff at offices across England.

The courses are sourced from The Matchett Group’s ‘Sushi Bar Learning’ range of short training sessions.

Re-badged for LSC staff as ‘Pick and Mix’ training, the courses last for two hours and are held at local LSC offices.

According to the LSC, the courses are intended to meet some immediate learning and development needs, allowing employees to put their learning into the workplace straightaway and to encourage them to progress to further learning that the LSC has on offer.

The pilot scheme is currently taking place in LSC offices in the east of England, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside, and the national office in Coventry. Subjects include: change management; assertive communications; influencing; time management; managing meetings; smart writing; risk management; and creativity.

"Evaluation has been ongoing, and the feedback so far has been very positive", said Gill Wright, Learning and Development Adviser at LSC head office in Coventry. "The Pick and Mix sessions complement our existing training programme, and they are proving to be very popular."

Matchett Group account manager David Baird said: "We are delighted that the Pick and Mix programme is so popular. The feedback sheets have been excellent. The next part of the Pick and Mix programme takes place in the West Midlands, having started this summer. "

The Matchett Group will be featuring its Sushi Bar Learning at the World of Learning Conference and Exhibition in November (stand no C100). The Matchett Group will be offering a prize of a free Sushi Bar training session, with an estimated value of £1,000.
