GoSkills celebrates driver safety skills

Safe driving skills were celebrated at the recent Coach & Bus Live! Show at the NEC, Birmingham, when Mr Peter Jones from Plymouth Citybus received the Road Operators Safety Council's Safe Driver of the Year Award from Mr Steve Clayton, President of the Confederation of Passenger Transport.

GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council for Passenger Transport, sponsored the award this year to demonstrate the importance it places on promoting safety within the sector.

Alison Hail, GoSkills Director of Development, was on hand to congratulate Peter when the award was presented at the Live Theatre, she said: "Peter has done fantastically well to have so many years safe driving on his record. Dealing with today's road environment and ensuring passenger safety is one of, if not the, most important challenges facing a driver and this is why GoSkillsfully supports the ROSCO Awards.

"We have a number of training resources to support the bus and coach industries available that focus on health and safety, customer service and disability awareness and others are in the pipeline. Sponsoring awards and initiatives such as the ROSCO scheme is part of our commitment to raising the overall level of skills and professionalism across passenger transport which we believe will have positive effects on patronage and productivity."

Peter's award recognises 37 years of accident free driving.
