Stephen Studd, chief executive of SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for the active leisure and learning industry, said: "National Occupational Standards underpin the qualifications for the whole of the sector. Employers can use NOS to design, deliver and evaluate training, identify individual development needs, and provide an agreed standard of competence for the sector. "We are very pleased that there is now a central directory for all Standards. On the SkillsActive website we offer the NOS for our sector, but as with other Sector Skills Councils, our work sometimes overlaps, especially with the hospitality and tourism industry. It is important that employers and training providers can access all National Occupational Standards as easily as possible." Mark Fisher, Chief Executive of the Sector Skills Development Agency, added: "We believe that providers will find the NOS Directory user friendly and a valuable source of information. Each National Occupational Standard has been developed by employers or employer representative organisations working together, in order to ensure that the standards are able to be used and applied in the workplace. As well as public access to all NOS information, the website signposts users to their relevant Sector Skills Councils or standards setting body for more information." The directory contains information on occupational standards produced by the Skills for Business network and other standards setting bodies. Users can search the directory by keyword, by the SSC/standards setting body responsible for the standards, by the appropriate sector or industry, or by the name of the suite of standards. The National Occupational Standards Directory was launched formally at a reception held yesterday at The Brewery, London.
