Nigel Moore, head of group marketing at City & Guilds, said: "Employees are the greatest asset to any organisation. To succeed in today's business environment, companies need a highly skilled and well-motivated workforce. We believe it's essential that employers invest in training for their staff, so that they are fully prepared to tackle the new challenges and opportunities they may face. This is why it is so appropriate for us to sponsor this award. We are excited that more and more employers are striving to become UK leaders in training and development." The National Business Awards Chief Executive, Adrian Tripp said, "We have recently seen a marked increase in the attention entrepreneurs and business generally are attracting - from the Chancellor to prime time television. "Businesses at every level - regional to pan-European - are taking the valuable opportunity to gain recognition for the important role they play in the health of the economy. It is quite possible that one of the regional finalists announced today will go on to the European Business Awards recognised as a beacon of success and good practice." The regional winners will go forward into the Orange sponsored National Business Awards, and if short-listed, attend the main ceremony at Grosvenor House, London on November 7th 2006. Winners of the National Business Awards categories may go one step further by competing at The European Business Awards, held in Brussels in January 2007. Commenting on this year's finalists, Alastair MacLeod, vice president business solutions at Orange UK, said: "I am constantly impressed by the quantity and quality of the entries for the National Business Awards. The entrants demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation to succeed and I challenge anyone who doesn't believe British businesses are at the vanguard of innovation and growth to meet with these finalists. "All the finalists to the regional programme have shown passion, determination and originality - we wish them all luck in the final rounds of judging."
