The census is a sector-wide survey of company MDs and HR managers that aims to measure the total number and make-up of the audio visual workforce. Skillset says the information gathered by the census is used to understand how the industry is changing and plan investment in skills, monitor the diversity of the workforce and lobby government on funding and policy issues. Skillset and other organisations have also established a number of skills development and diversity initiatives based upon data gathered by the census. Clive Jones, chief executive of ITV News and Regions, and chair of Skillset, said: "Skillset's census is the backbone of the industry's labour market information, it tells us the size and shape of the workforce and how it is changing and developing over time. It is used throughout the sector to analyse trends and prepare for the future as well as being critical in measuring the diversity of the workforce. I urge all employers to complete the census."
