The new facility in Mayflower House on Armada Way provides employment services for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Among those attending the event were local employers, Jobcentre Plus advisors, training partners and representatives from local disability groups. Guests were given an overview of the branch's services, a tour of the facility, and participated in a key skills training session. Since opening at the start of July, the branch has reported rapidly increasing numbers of both candidates and employers signing-up to its specialist services. JobReady Groups - where candidates are given support in searching and applying for jobs - are run regularly, while vocational development programmes, run in conjunction with local employers, aim to equip jobseekers with the practical skills they need to gain employment. Barbara Field, manager of the Plymouth branch, said: "It's been a wonderful opportunity to show off our facilities to local employers and partners. Guests have been genuinely surprised at the services we offer to accurately match employers with job-ready, motivated candidates. "There are currently more than 12,000 people receiving incapacity benefit or severe disability allowance in the Plymouth region and by opening a branch in the heart of the city, we're making it easier for people to access our services, enabling us to support more people than ever back into work." Remploy said it placed 4,300 people into jobs with mainstream employers last year. The organisation aims to support 20,000 people nationally into employment each year by 2010. Remploy high-street branches have now opened in Birmingham, Plymouth and Leeds.
