Champagne celebration for 2,000th ATA technician

Ford master technician, Daryl King, who works for EMG Motor Group in Spalding, has become the 2,000th technician to achieve his credentials as part of the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme.

Having successfully completed the required practical assessments and theoretical test as part of the Ford Masters programme, Daryl was presented with his ATA photo-identity card and a bottle of champagne by Sarah Sillars, chief executive of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), which governs the scheme.

Andy Back, service manager at EMG Motor Group said: "Daryl is a very experienced, long serving valued member of our service team, and we are absolutely delighted with his achievement here at EMG."

In support of the ATA scheme, Snap-on Tools presented Daryl with its Scangas 4-gas analyser to mark his accomplishment.

Terry Barcham, managing director, Snap-on Tools UK, commented: "Snap-on is delighted to be associated with ATA. To have accredited more than 2,000 technicians in just over 12 months is indicative of the progress ATA has made.

"Our industry has for a long time needed some over-arching formal framework for benchmarking technical competence and ATA is providing this. It not only sends a positive signal to all those within our industry but also to millions of customers.

"I applaud ATA and would encourage all companies within the automotive aftermarket to embrace this ground-breaking initiative."

Sarah Sillars, IMI chief executive, added: "This landmark is great news for the scheme, underlining the industry's desire to recognise the importance and value of current competence and ethical behaviour.

"Accreditation is a hot topic across the sector and we are working hard to maintain this progress. It's tremendous that major stakeholders such as Snap-on are actively promoting the benefits of getting involved."
