Home > News > September 2006 > 28 September 2006 Minister to launch new union learning initiativeThe minister for lifelong learning, further and higher education, Bill Rammell MP, and the Southern and Eastern region unionlearn will launch a new union learning initiative for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire on Friday 29 September. The Beds and Herts Trade Union Learning Forum (BHTULF) aims to bring together all of the major organisations involved in skills and training in the two counties. These include trade unions, employers, training providers, Learning and Skills Councils (LSCs), and Sector Skills Councils. The inaugural meeting in Luton will discuss how trade unions and their members and employers can benefit from Train to Gain, the Government's new skills initiative. BHTULF aims to provide a forum where all parties can engage in the workplace learning agenda and seek solutions for tackling the skills crisis that is predicted for the UK. The inaugural meeting will be chaired by Lorene Fabian, council member for Beds and Luton LSC. Speakers will include Barry Francis, regional manager unionlearn Southern and Eastern Region, Iain Murray, senior policy officer, TUC, Chris Vesey, principal of Dunstable College and Bill Rammell MP. The event will begin at 10am and end at 3pm.
