In 2008 young people from across the UK will compete in over 20 skills for the chance to win a gold medal at the event. UK Skills, a not-for-profit organisation that champions skills and learning for work, is organising the UK entry. Euroskills 2008 will feature vocational competitions, demonstrations, interactive events, information markets and conferences and will be host to visitors from across Europe. The competition will take place at the Ahoy Exhibition Centre in Rotterdam, Holland from 18-20 September 2008. According to UK Skills, the volunteer training manager roles offer the chance to work with professionals who are at the forefront of vocational skills and training, in the UK and Europe, continuing professional development in an international context, and international travel to the EuroSkills Competition. While no salary is attributed to these posts, UK Skills says it will do its utmost to ensure that those appointed are supported to develop their skills to fulfil the role. UK Skills Chief Executive, Jacqui Henderson CBE, said: "The recent Leitch report warned of a decline in economic growth if the UK doesn't increase its skill levels. The new emerging economies such as India and China make the need to do this all the greater. "Skills Competitions like EuroSkills help raise skills standards and promote excellence in vocational skills in a unique and innovative way. The EuroSkills Competition will excite and inspire young people to pursue a vocational career through participating in skills competitions, whilst also giving us the opportunity to showcase excellence in training and skills. "In order to make the UK's participation in this competition a success we need skilled experts from business and industry as well as the further and higher education sector to get involved. This is a dynamic and exciting opportunity to get involved with the development of young people and the future of skills in the UK." UK Skills says it needs people who:
