Unionlearn hosts Skills for Life event

Today Trade Union Learning Reps from across the East Midlands will gather at the 'Skills for Life: A Trade Union Approach' conference held in Leicester and organised by unionlearn with the Midlands TUC.

Union Learning Reps from a range of sectors and companies will debate issues around basic skills in the workplace and look at how they can help employers take advantage of the Government's Train to Gain programme.

As well as discussing workplace skills issues, conference delegates will also be tested on their own basic skills through a Test the Conference session run by the Move-On Project. Speakers will include unionlearn's Judith Swift, union development manager and Genevieve Clark from Vital Link talking about Quick Reads and libraries in the workplace.

Mary Alys, regional manager unionlearn with the Midlands TUC said: "I am delighted that unionlearn is hosting this conference, which is so important for working people across the East Midlands.

"We are especially proud to have linked up with the BBC's RaW (Reading and Writing) campaign in this region and I am sure that ULRs will go back to their workplaces with new ideas and a new enthusiasm to tackle the workplace skills crisis in the East Midlands."
