Investors in People UK and ConstructionSkills in new alliance

Investors in People UK and sector skills council ConstructionSkills have formalised a skills alliance that aims to secure business improvement through better people development and management practice.

The agreement also seeks to improve take-up of the Investors in People Standard amongst construction companies. Currently, over 2000 construction organisations are recognised as Investors in People organisations.

As part of the agreement, the two organisations say they will develop a joint action plan focussed on a range of areas, ranging from marketing through to training.

Wyn Prichard, ConstructionSkills spokesperson, said: "ConstructionSkills is working with construction firms of all sizes to encourage the uptake of training. Many of the customers we talk to day-to-day confirm that investing in skills ensures a safer and more motivated workforce, as well as encouraging staff loyalty. We're pleased to be working with Investors in People to help get this message across and to improve the performance of firms across the construction industry."

Simon Jones, acting chief executive at Investors in People UK, commented: "The construction sector is a key focus for the government's campaign to increase skill levels within the UK. It's vital that the industry tackles this issue head on to ensure their bottom line does not suffer as a result of poor productivity and inadequately skilled workers.

"By working in partnership with ConstructionSkills, we are committed to increasing the number of organisations working with Investors in People to grow the skills and performance of their employees."
