FSSC invites consultation on new training and competence standards

The Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) is inviting training and competence practitioners from across the UK to give their views online on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) units which are being developed for people working in this area.

The FSSC says NOS have been drafted for the following functions:

  • Policy, Scheme Design and Maintenance
  • Managing Performance through Training and Competence
  • Quality Assurance of Training and Competence Schemes

NOS are industry performance standards designed to set out the requirements for effective performance in the workplace. They are presented in the form of units which are divided into outcomes of effective performance, behaviours underpinning effective performance and knowledge and understanding.

FSSC Director of Education, Sam Rees-Adams said: "The development of NOS for Training & Competence is an important addition to the suite of Standards available for the financial services industry. The FSSC continues to work in partnership with employers, professional bodies and trade associations to produce high quality performance standards for the financial services industry. Principles-based regulation presents both opportunities and challenges for those involved in T&C and National Occupational Standards can provide invaluable help. We are inviting all T&C practitioners to get involved in the crucial process of shaping these standards through our consultation."

Practitioners are being asked to support the consultation by reviewing the draft NOS units (which are available as a PDF document) and then completing a short questionnaire. The PDF and the questionnaire are on the FSSC website, www.fssc.org.uk, under Standards & Accreditation.

The closing date for responses is Friday 25 April.
