Skills for Logistics provided drivers and contacts from smaller companies with information and advice on how the training legislation will directly impact them. "Burying your head in the sand will not make the requirements of Driver CPC go away. Drivers will have to participate in the 35 hours of periodic training over 5 years so it is better to be prepared than ignore it," said Dr Mick Jackson, Chief Executive at Skills for Logistics. "Our organisation is working hard to raise awareness and help guide logistics businesses through the requirements of Driver CPC. We are also encouraging employers to take this mandatory training and turn it into an opportunity to develop a more highly skilled workforce." From talking with the drivers, Skills for Logistics said they saw a mixed response to the directive. Only 27% of those questioned at the truck stop felt that they had a good understanding of what the legislation requires, some said that their employers were not making them aware of what the legislation means for them, whilst others felt that it was something that would add to the woes of the logistics sector, particularly at this challenging economic time. And some responded positively welcoming the chance to develop or refresh their skills.
