Cranfield and Coutts launch development programme for family businesses

Cranfield School of Management has joined forces with UK private bank Coutts & Co to offer a new development programme for family businesses with aspirations to progress and grow.

Aimed at multi-generational family businesses based in the UK, Cranfield says the programme will get to the heart of what makes a family business successful and sustainable.

The programme is aiming to give participants an understanding of how to balance the often competing demands of family membership and owning and managing the business along with insights into maintaining the values of the business and the family through a tough trading environment.

Programme director, David Molian from the Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurial Performance & Economics at Cranfield commented: "Family businesses are the backbone of the British economy, and now more than ever we must ensure these businesses are in good shape for the economic recovery.

"We have been working with family business founders at Cranfield for many years. Coutts are one of Britain's longest-established banking houses and they bring a wealth of complementary expertise to this unique programme."

Mark Evans, head of family business and philanthropy at Coutts said: "In today's tough times, it is more important than ever to leverage the competitive advantage of being a family business. That's where our 300 year history of working with family firms can add value.

"We are looking forward to combining our experience with Cranfield"s knowledge and individual case studies to help attendees consider new development opportunities for their families and businesses."

The first programme will take place 6 - 8 October and 17 November 2009.
