DELDMC will provide a central capability for the delivery and management of e-Learning across Defence, with a potential audience of some 300,000 users and worth an estimated 25M. Lord Bach said: "I am delighted to be able to announce that British Telecommunications Plc has been awarded this contract, which will allow the MoD to implement the training requirement recommendations of the Defence Training Review quickly and at reduced cost to the taxpayer. By investing in e-Learning technology, we will be greatly improving speed and efficiency for both the Armed Forces and civilian users." Initially, the DELDMC will primarily deliver to MoD civilians and the UK regular forces, but it has the potential for expansion to include delivery to external organisations, reserves and veterans. Subject to detailed negotiations, the DELDMC will enter service incrementally during 2004.
