Thomson Prometric & Global Knowledge sign testing services agreement

Assessment services provider Thomson Prometric and Global Knowledge have announced a two year partnership agreement for testing services that will be available through Global Knowledge's network of locations in Europe.

A variety of IT certification exams will be offered including those from Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA.

In addition, Thomson Prometric says it will provide academic and professional testing for clients ranging from language tests such as TOEFL to the CITB Health and Safety test.

Chartered Management Institute appoints new president

Tim Melville-Ross, chairman of Bovis Homes plc, has been appointed as the new president of the Chartered Management Institute.

The Institute says Melville-Ross will use his role to call on employers to give genuine commitment to the development of the UK's managers and leaders.

Trade unionist appointed to London Skills and Employment Board

London's Mayor, Ken Livingstone has appointed Barry Francis, regional manager of Southern and Eastern Region Unionlearn, to the London Skills and Employment Board.

Ken Livingstone said: "The new Board brings together a wealth of talent and expertise in the fields of business and education which will be vital to deliver world class training and skills in London. We need to work with London's employers to ensure Londoners receive the training they need to get jobs. This will ensure all Londoners can benefit from and make a real contribution to the capital's economic prosperity."

Barry Francis said: "With a quarter of the London workforce having problems with basic literacy skills and nearly half the workforce with the bare minimum of numeracy skills, there is a great deal of work to be done if we are to meet the challenges ahead in upskilling workers. The London Skills and Employment Board is a real opportunity to address these challenges and I am delighted that I have been selected to be a member of the Board."
