The technicians' competencies framework aims to support the recruitment, retention and training of ICT technicians who work in schools, and provide tools, advice and guidance for school leaders and technicians. School leaders can access advice on the recruitment of technicians and analyse the technical support already received, while technicians can access a self assessment tool which is designed to help them to analyse current skills and identify training requirements. John Taylor, Project Manager - Institutional Development says: "The demand for high quality technical support in schools is reflected in the significance of ICT to support the government's agenda for workforce reform in schools. This demonstrates the importance of a reliable and robust technical support system in schools." The 2004 Ofsted report states that technical support emerges as a highly influential contributory factor in determining how well schools progress.
