The IT practitioner qualifications in Application Management Essentials and IT Infrastructure Management are based upon the guidelines recommended by the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) which the BCS adheres to through its range of ISEB qualifications. Colin Rudd, Chair of ISEB's Examination Board said: "The launch of these latest qualifications represents an exciting opportunity for the IT industry to acquire the skills and competences required to align IT services and skills to business requirements and processes and to develop best practice processes and disciplines for the delivery of high quality services. "Successfully managing an organisation's IT infrastructure and its applications is an essential requirement for any business to function effectively, as IT is now more critical than ever to business strategy and performance and every organisation relies upon the quality of their IT services to deliver business results. "Furthermore, successful management of IT infrastructure and applications is fundamental to the delivery of secure, reliable IT services, and to the successful implementation of IT projects." The IT Infrastructure Management Certificate looks at the processes required to manage an IT infrastructure and the definition of the interfaces and dependencies with all other areas involved in the support and delivery of IT services. The Application Management Essentials Certificate addresses the subject of managing applications from the initial business need, through the Application Management lifecycle, up to and including retirement.
