OCR unveils revised CLAiT computer skills qualification

Awarding body OCR unveiled its revised CLAiT Suite at this week’s HRD Conference and Exhibition at Olympia in London.

According to OCR, changes to CLAiT include the provision of additional alternative assessment options - including more e-assessment, e-solutions and vendor specific tests - to make the courses more accessible to a wider community of learners.

OCR say they have also simplified the structure of the qualifications, to offer clearer progression routes at module level, and adjusted the content to ensure units cover of the new National Occupational Standards for Using IT (ITQ).

The revised CLAiT retains its three level structure with CLAiT 2006 (Level 1) for beginners, CLAiT Plus 2006 (Level 2) for intermediates and CLAiT Advanced 2006 (Level 3) for learners with a higher understanding of IT.

At each level, candidates are able to achieve individual unit certificates; a Certificate for successfully completing three units; or a Diploma for achieving five units.

Mary Bennett, Assistant Director of OCR, said: "Information and Communication Technology plays a central role in many businesses today and it is important that employers and their staff can utilise its potential.

“Our revised CLAiT Suite allows learners of all abilities to develop their practical IT skills and receive a nationally recognised qualification. The improved assessment framework allows the delivery of flexible learning solutions which are suitable to those with other commitments, particularly those in full time employment”.
