Embedded into the system is the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) designed to assist staff in achieving their specific central job skills. TAS will help Tameside PCT to identify mandatory training requirements, manage personal development plans and make their administration fully electronic. Helen Moreton, education and training development manager, Tameside & Glossop PCT, said: "With the increase in 'compensation culture' it is vital that PCTs can be confident that their staff are fully and correctly trained, in order to reduce liability. Being able to monitor training programmes using TAS will be a definite advantage in risk management." The NHS KSF is a development tool consisting of six core 'dimensions' that will occur in every NHS job. These are: communication; personal and people development; health, safety and security; service development; quality; and equality, diversity and rights. There are a further 16 dimensions that relate to certain specialist jobs. NHS staff have to apply the knowledge and skills in a set number of dimensions in order to meet the requirements of their job. Most job requirements will be made up of the six core and three to six specific job related skill sets. Consensus has customised TAS by incorporating these dimensions into the system in order to enable the PCTs to ensure that staff are trained in these crucial areas. Jim Sullivan, public sector account manager at Consensus, said: "TAS will provide an important overview of the training that staff have received, which will ensure that there are no gaps in skill levels." Tameside & Glossop PCT serves a population of 250,000 living in the Tameside areas and the adjacent town of Glossop, which is part of High Peak. The PCT is one of the largest in Greater Manchester with a budget of more than £200 million and employing over 800 staff.
