The BCS CareerDeveloper is a web-based solution designed to enable organisations to effectively plot the career development of their IT team by managing employees' skills and competencies and identifying areas of training need. Developed in partnership with InfoBasis, the BCS resource runs on the InfoBasis Enterprise Skills Infrastructure platform. David Clarke, BCS chief executive believes tools such as CareerDeveloper are vital investments for an industry plagued by project failure and negative public perception: "BCS CareerDeveloper is the latest offering from the BCS's professional products suite to ensure standards of IT professionalism are improved. "Similar to the recently launched BCS SkillsManager which was targeted at individuals who wanted to invest in their IT career and to discover what they needed to do to progress up the ladder, CareerDeveloper is aimed at the IT manager or director who wants to do more to develop his/her team; to ensure they're motivated, they have goals to achieve and they know what they can do to raise the professionalism of the department and the profession as a whole. "BCS Career Developer enables an organisation to ensure the required skills are available to deliver successful projects on time. It will help staff feel motivated and valued and the scheme can be accredited by the BCS to provide an additional selling point to customers. "We have been working closely with industry to provide guidance on all issues relating to staff development to ensure standards are raised and to drive home the message that a competently skilled and motivated IT workforce is paramount to the professions' image and credibility." Career Developer is normally provided as an internet hosted product, however it can also be provided as an intranet solution. The BCS provide updates to the tool functionality and the SFIAplus standard automatically.
