Socitm calls for applications for leadership programme bursaries

The Society of IT Management (Socitm) is calling for applications from senior managers in local government ICT and e-government roles for up to 100 Socitm Bursaries, each worth £3500.

The bursaries will facilitate the participation of ICT managers and E-champions in the Future Leadership Programme, a three module development programme designed to build the leadership and management capacity of middle and senior managers in local government.

The bursary programme is being run in partnership with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) under the ODPM/LGA Capacity Building National Framework. The bursaries, which cover the full fees for attending the three modules, can be used for attendance on the programme between March 2005 and November 2006. The scheme is not restricted to members of Socitm.

The Future Leadership Programme is designed to give participants the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding in leadership, and to gain insight into the challenges and dilemmas facing other managers across local government.

The programme includes seven and a half days divided into three modules which take place over a six month period. The bursary is available to individuals that:

  • are employed by a local authority or fire authority
  • are in a senior management role in ICT or E-government for their authority

In order to qualify for the Socitm Bursary applicants are also required to submit a statement setting out their understanding of their strengths, areas for development in relation to the skills for e-government identified in the Socitm Insight report Delivering e-government, and how they will put to use the learning gained from the programme in future work.

Demand for this programme is expected to be high and priority will be given to early applications and those staff working in authorities involved with the IDeA’s E-government Implementation Support Unit.
