Socitm calls for applications for remaining leadership programme bursaries

The Society of IT Management (Socitm) is calling for applications for the remaining bursaries available to fund ICT managers on the Future Leadership Programme

The bursaries, each worth £3500, facilitate the participation of ICT managers and e-champions in the three-module development programme being run under the ODPM/LGA Capacity Building National Framework.

100 bursaries were made available by the ODPM via Socitm for attendance on the programme between March 2005 and November 2006. Courses are now full until October, but some bursaries are still available for programmes between then and June 2006.

Delegates who have completed the programme are urging fellow IT managers to apply while bursaries are still available.

"It was an experience I would recommend to any Head of IT or next tier IT manager," said Kevin Malone, Technology Services Manager at Shropshire County Council.

"It was particularly valuable going on an extended programme with colleagues from other areas of local authority management. It was good to get the chance to debate and discuss and come to a shared understanding with others of where local government is headed and what the challenges are – and not least the role of IT in transformational change."

The Future Leadership Programme bursary is available to individuals that are employed by a local authority or fire authority, and are in a senior management role in ICT or E-government for their authority
