The OU course, called ‘Leading for Results,’ is a combination of supported distance learning and face-to-face facilitated workshops. The course aims to develop skills and understanding in team leadership, performance management and coping with change. The first group of Addaction managers will begin the three month training course later this month. Addaction’s director of human resources, Guy Pink said: "Addaction aims to be the voluntary organisation of choice for the drug and alcohol treatment sector, and working to develop staff is a key part of this strategy. I am therefore delighted that we will be working with the Open University and rolling out the Leading for Results programme to all our senior staff. "The fact that we are one of the first voluntary sector organisations to join up with the OU in quite this way, and the first to do so nationally, emphasises our commitment to staff and to improvement in skills that ultimately will be of benefit to our clients. " Judy Armitt of the OU Centre for Continuing Professional Development said: "Addaction were looking for a way to further develop their management system and the OU provided the perfect fit, as the programme blends together distance learning and face-to-face contact in such a way that disruption to the workplace is minimised, while skills and knowledge gained can be immediately applied. "The programme will be rolled out over a12 month period, so that all of Addaction’s managers throughout the UK will have completed this course by the end of 2006."
