She succeeds Mary Chapman, who will be leaving after nine years to pursue other professional interests. Ruth Spellman will join the Institute in June 2008 from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, where she has been chief executive since January 2007. "Her experience in the area of people development makes her ideally placed to lead the Institute's drive for more professional management that will benefit the long-term performance and productivity of UK organisations." Ruth Spellman said: "I am delighted to be appointed to this role at such a critical time for the development of the UK's future leaders. It is a great honour to play a part in the growth of individuals whose impact will be felt across the UK's economy."
