The PPA offers training for those employed in the magazine industry through its partnership with the Periodicals Training Council (PTC). Loraine Davies, director of PTC, said: "It's our vision to create a fully professionalised industry by offering support and training. "Digital developments have caused a significant shift in how the publishing industry works and we are confident our Diploma will be invaluable for anyone responsible for understanding and developing digital channels and strategies." The PPA says the course has been developed with the aim of addressing the needs of experienced publishers requiring a contextual view of the multi-channel publishing landscape. Diploma delegates will be required to undertake a number of coursework tasks, including publishing and marketing their own website or blog. Craig Hanna, training director at E-consultancy.com, said: "A number of publishers have approached us this year to help them train staff in the importance of creating a strategic online presence and an integrated marketing strategy. "There is a current skills shortage in the whole of the digital sector and our discussions with PPA highlighted the importance of formal digital training in an industry having to evolve at an incredible rate. We are delighted to work closely with PPA and to encourage the professional development of these invaluable skills." Diploma delegates will be required to attend ten face-to-face training sessions during the course as well as undertake personal study, including distance learning modules and additional research.
