Based at The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) offices in Maidenhead, the MSSSB has been working on the standards project since 2004. Paul Gostick, chairman of The Institute, said: "The Chartered Institute of Marketing applauds the launch of the professional standards by the Marketing and Sales Standards Setting Body which is an important milestone for the marketing profession. "The Chartered Institute of Marketing is committed to establishing industry-wide marketing and sales standards which will provide comprehensive guidance to businesses and other organisations about the skills required at all levels in these two critical business functions." Chahid Fourali, head of MSSSB, said: "The co-operation of everyone involved in marketing/marketing communications and sales will ensure that we can disseminate these world-class professional benchmarks to maximise professional practise and to influence government, education providers and all those working in these areas" The standards project was undertaken by the MSSSB following an earlier project that reviewed the size, scope and profile of the marketing/marketing communications and sales profession. This showed, amongst other findings, that these two professions are amongst the fastest growing professional groups with 1.25 million participants.
