Carphone Warehouse to present at HR directors summit
Darren Bezani, group training manager at The Carphone Warehouse Group plc, is to present a case study on optimising your investment in training at the HR Directors Business Summit 2007.
Bezani and his community of 140+ trainers, spread across 10 European countries plus USA, South Africa and India, are responsible for training right across the business.
"One of our priorities is to ensure that our training is delivered to consistently high standards and that good practice is shared across the training community," says Bezani. "As we set the industry benchmark, we needed an industry training standard that we could adopt as our own and that would deliver results fast."
The Carphone Warehouse used The Training Foundation's Trainer Assessment Programme (TAP) to provide the training, development and certification framework.
"When you're operating in an environment as fast moving and innovative as ours you need to get your trainers skilled to optimum effectiveness as quickly possible so that they can, in turn, transfer customer support skills to our people as quickly as possible," explains Bezani. "This was the big attraction of TAP's Delivery Skills Refresher course."
Twenty-six training managers from all over Europe were enrolled on the course. Bezani says the impact was immediate: "Quality of delivery and delegate feedback improved, training materials were rewritten to optimise the structure of training courses, collaboration between business units improved and the confidence levels of our trainers increased.
"Our trainers were already highly competent, but they emerged with a passion to change the world with what they'd learned and better equipped to measure training effectiveness, which means that as a community we are able to work smarter to the benefit of our customer support teams and our customers."
The HR Business Directors Summit takes place at the Celtic Manor Resort, South Wales on 29-30 January 2007
