Sutton says his workshop will highlight three key issues for all leaders of L&D functions: * The importance of aligning L&D strategies to business objectives, ensuring consistency in design and delivery and clarity of evaluation processes * Gaining business recognition of the need to invest in the development of L&D professionals: limiting the CPD of trainers limits the return on investment of training delivery * The need for organisations to prioritise investment in the core competencies of people over brand and technology and in particular build the people development skills of line managers "It's not uncommon for organisations and L&D departments to focus on the 'exciting' stuff like talent management and succession planning to the detriment of the core competencies that are the lifeblood of customer service and professionalism," says Sutton. "Line managers have a pivotal role in embedding these core competencies into the fabric of the organisation – or not - yet adequate preparation for this developmental role is often lacking." The 'Leading a learning and development function' workshop is scheduled to place on Wednesday 14 November 2007 (16.00-16.45) at the World of Learning Exhibition and Conference at the NEC Birmingham.
