A survey by jobs site reed.co.uk has found that nearly three quarters (72%) of university leavers believe work experience is invaluable to a university degree. The reed.co.uk Graduate Survey polled nearly 700 university graduates.

Management Book of the Year shortlist announced
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has announced the shortlist for the Management Book of the Year awards. The CMI Management Book of the Year competition, run by CMI in association with the British Library, aims to uncover the UK's best books on management and leadership and raise the profile of the great management writing in the UK.

Ferrari North Europe welcomes new apprentices
Robert Llewellyn, TV personality and presenter of Channel 5's 'How do they do it?' series, was at Ferrari North Europe's new Apprentices facilities in London on Friday, where he met the 11 new Ferrari Apprentices who have just been enrolled in a new 3-year Ferrari Apprenticeship programme.

Nominations open for 2012 Adult Learners' Week Awards
Nominations are now open for next year's Adult Learners' Week Awards. The awards are organised by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) and celebrate people who have used learning to help them transform their lives. Awards are also given to innovative projects that provide adults with the opportunity to learn and improve their lives and the lives of their families and communities.

Leadership development is top L&D priority, says survey
Leadership development is the top priority for L&D teams over the next 12 months, according to a new survey from Video Arts. The survey asked 417 Learning & Development professionals about the training they provide, how it is delivered and their plans for the future.

Chubb launches new leadership development programme
Chubb, the security and fire protection services provider, has launched a new leadership development programme. The first cohort of 100 managers from all over the UK are spending the next 12 months on the leadership development programme before having the opportunity to study towards a two-year foundation degree in Leadership.

ISMM Successful Selling conference
Workplace stress and sales skills are among the topics on the agenda at this year's 'Successful Selling' conference organised by the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management (ISMM). At the conference, broadcaster and former Conservative cabinet minister, Michael Portillo, will explore 'The Importance of Selling in Today's Economy', and Alice Beer, BBC journalist and presenter of the consumer programme Watchdog, will be discussing 'What makes an Ethical Sale?'.

Amey wins 2011 CIPD People Management Award
Public service infrastructure provider Amey is the overall winner of the 2011 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) People Management Awards. The winners across all categories were announced at the Awards ceremony, held in London last night.

Honda (UK) celebrates apprenticeship programme success
Honda (UK)'s apprenticeship programme has this year scored 90.8% for its completion rates (15.3% above the national average) and 85.4% (21.3% above the national average) for its 'timely success' score. Since opening in 2001, Honda's bespoke training facility - The Honda Institute - has trained approximately 1,000 Honda apprentices.

ISMM accredits SIG training initiative
A sales training scheme run by construction products supplier SIG plc has received accreditation from the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management (ISMM). Graduates of SIG's sales training courses - which range from internal sales and key account management through to senior sales executive development programmes - will now be awarded with ISMM qualifications accredited under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Cameron visits WorldSkills London 2011
Prime minister David Cameron today visited WorldSkills London 2011. The four-day international skills competition is taking place this week at ExCeL London. Around 1,000 young people from more than 50 countries/regions are competing at the event.
