Arden Training and Conference Centre on the University of Warwick campus introduced the ban shortly after Easter. "The vast majority of people have welcomed the move," said Dannie Cahill, General Manager of Arden. "But then, we were well aware that they were very much in favour of us introducing a no-smoking policy. "We try wherever possible to respond to customer feedback and we had received a lot of comments about smoke in the bar and lounge area. "Therefore, we took this step in the knowledge that there is a move towards a ban on smoking in public areas in the future anyway." He added: “We had considered introducing an area for smokers in the new conservatory, but in light of what has happened recently, I am sure we will be retaining the ban across all areas in the future. "There are a still a limited number of bedrooms in which smoking is permitted and we will also be improving the patio area to provide people with more covered areas if they wish to smoke outside. "While we have already received a lot of positive comments about the introduction of the ban, we have not noticed any change in revenue generated by the bar which is also very satisfying. Added to that it is now a more healthier environment for both our customers and staff alike." The other two training and conference centres at Warwick Conferences, Scarman and Radcliffe, are now monitoring the situation following Arden’s decision.
