Free training tool launched to support business mentors project
A new online training tool has been launched this week to help experienced business people to mentor small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The new training tool is part of the Get Mentoring scheme, launched in November, which aims to recruit 15,000 new mentors to help entrepreneurs fulfil their potential.

CIPD announces details of HRD 2012
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has announced details of its HRD 2012 Conference and Exhibition which takes place on 25-26 April at London Olympia. The CIPD says the latest trends in learning and development will be explored at HRD 2012, through a mix of 35 different conference sessions.

Rail industry collaborates on work placement scheme
Companies from across the rail sector have joined together to launch a new cross-industry paid internship scheme. The scheme - Track and Train – is aiming to provide an all-round industry experience over 18 months for up to 100 graduates.

Redundancies and skills shortages top managers' concerns for 2012, says survey
Nearly half of UK managers (43%) are expecting further redundancies in 2012, and over a third of managers (38%) feel insecure in their jobs, according to the annual end of year research from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Over half of the managers surveyed felt that they would be unlikely to get another job if they were to be made redundant.

According to new research from Bersin & Associates, senior leaders who coach, develop and hold others accountable for coaching and development are three times more effective at producing improved business and talent results than those who do not. The research findings are included in the research and consulting firm's new study, 'High-Impact Performance Management: Part 1 - Designing a Strategy for Effectiveness'.

Lloydspharmacy launches largest ever people programme
Pharmacy and healthcare provider Lloydspharmacy is launching its largest ever people programme for staff this month with a specially created training initiative for supervisor level retail staff. The +ONE programme aims to enhance retail standards and customer experience in store, and will see 1,500 supervisors and 50 operational support managers attend two-day workshops in July.

Report looks at the attitudes and expectations of graduates and their managers
New research from the Institute of Leadership & Management and Ashridge Business School has found that more than half of new graduate recruits (57%) plan to leave their current role within two years. Two-fifths (40%) said they hoped to find a new job within the year and almost one in five (16%) want to move into a new role as soon as possible despite huge competition for graduate jobs.

Report: Redundancies and talent shortages create 2011 management fears
Almost half of UK managers (48%) are expecting further redundancies in 2011, and 43% do not believe their organisation has the right people to fulfil its 2011 objectives, according to new research from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). The Future Forecast report reveals that of those concerned about being unable to meet objectives, 58% blame skills shortages, 45% poor morale and 44% a lack of leadership.
