ECDL - The European Computer Driving Licence

Welcome to our ECDL home page. Here you'll find:

The ECDL programme (known as the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) in countries outside of Europe) is administered on a global basis by the ECDL Foundation (ECDL-F).

The ECDL-F offer a range of certifications, from entry-level programmes for complete beginners to specialised programmes for expert end-users.

IT instructor first to pass new look ECDL

The latest version of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) IT qualification, launched last year, has seen its first successful candidate pass all modules. Lorraine Dowd from Halton College in Cheshire is the first person in the UK to achieve her ECDL qualification using accredited Version 4 syllabus material.

ECDL selected for new South Yorkshire e-learning programme

The British Computer Society (BCS) is extending its regional ICT literacy campaigns. Its European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification is to be delivered to 149 schools and other educational and training institutions in South Yorkshire over the next four years as part of the county's new e-Learning Programme.

Npower provides ECDL to staff
Home services provider, npower, are offering European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) training to more than 8,000 staff at their offices across the country, commencing in February 2004.

Trainer Jenny is I.T.
Jenny is a Training and Development Officer with the Manchester Royal Infirmary's Haemodialysis Unit. She is responsible for training nurses and other staff to dialyse renal patients and is an NVQ assessor and verifier. She is also a hip grandmother who writes 'rap' songs for her grandson and wacky verse for friends and colleagues. But fiddling with computers for the joy of it - NO. Not until she took the ECDL course, that is.

Modern skills for Modern Matron
Sheila is Lead Midwife and Modern Matron for Inpatient Services on the Maternity Unit at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester, part of the Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospital NHS Trust. It's a varied and demanding role and Sheila loves it, but she did feel one thing let her down - her IT skills.

NHS e-learning is top of the class
The NHS Information Authority's European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) programme received top marks to pick up the title of 'e-learning project of the year' at the IT Training Awards event on February 5.

Electric Paper brings e-learning to UK prisons
Electric Paper has begun the roll-out of its computer based training and testing solutions to 57 prisons across the UK.
