Certified Trainer Assessment Programme (TAP)

Launched in 1998, the Certified Trainer Assessment Programme (TAP) offers a range of qualifications that have been designed to meet the needs of learning and development professionals, subject matter experts and occasional trainers, and individuals in learner support roles such as help desk or learning centre staff.

The certifications are underpinned by the TAP competency model which is made up of 21 competencies. These cover a range of activities from preparing for a training intervention to measuring the effectiveness of training. Each certification assesses the trainer on a subset of competencies.

Organisations that adopt the TAP programme for their training team can nominate individuals to be trained as In-house Assessors. The Training Foundation run Assessor training courses for the Training Delivery Skills, Facilitation Skills, and Training Design and Development Skills certification tracks.
